MEMSDrive MEMS OIS Actuator
Candidate for:2024 World Electronics Achievement Awards - Sensor
MEMS actuator is an electrostatic actuator, which provides translational X, translational Y movement, and rotation along Z axis. It moves image sensor, compensates vibration and stabilizes image quality during capturing and video recording. Comparing to the traditional lens-based optical image stabilization (OIS), the innovative MEMS OIS is a sensor shift OIS solution which provides superior stabilization performance with multiple advantages as follows:
-- 10ms fast response
-- 4mW extremely low power consumption
-- sub-pixel precision
-- no magnetic interference
-- no heat generation
-- High image resolution in low light and video without blur
--Long lifetime, cycling test passed more than 2 billion without image degradation
MEMSDrive’s optical image stabilizer (OIS), known as SensorShift, is the world’s smallest MEMS OIS actuator. The cutting-edge application of MEMS Technology provides a 5 axis Optical Image Stabilization (OIS) solution to improve clarity and achieve stable and precise image. All vibrations in pitch, yaw, roll, translational X and translational Y can be compensated with 1 single MEMS chip. Due to high precision and fast response in active movement, we can achieve another application called super resolution. By shifting imager 1 pixel or half pixel in different directions, capturing image at each position then merge and process those images, we can get a 4X or even higher resolution image.
MEMS actuator is produced in wafer foundry, each actuator is a tiny chip on wafer. our foundry partner is using 12-inch wafer process to build MEMS actuator, the volume can be ramp up rapidly to satisfy customer’s demand. All processes are highly automated so every MEMS chip is highly consistent.
MEMS actuator is a good platform more than just OIS, it brings unparalleled user experiences which no other existing actuator technology can match.
