Web-Feet Research执行官Alan Niebel表示，目前NAND闪存市场上，采用SLC(single-level-cell)与MLC(multi-level-cell)技术的传统组件热卖，甚至到了缺货的地步；但是采用TBC(three-bit-per-cell)技术的组件却乏人问津。

Nieble表示，市场对SLC与MLC NAND闪存的需求很高，依产品不同，他估计这两类组件缺货状况会一直延续到2011年第一季或第二季；而那些SLC与MLC NAND闪存的需求主力，包括手机、平板电脑、固态硬盘(SSD)等热门产品。

TBC技术的景况则大不相同，该类组件已经快速获得USB随身碟与闪存卡大量应用，但有部分供应商以低质量较差的组件抢市，让该市场由红转黑。Nieble指出，由于市场已被TBC组件“淹没”，该类产品的价格近来下跌了两至三成。

展望未来，Niebel对闪存市场前景表示“谨慎乐观”；整体看来，Web-Feet估计包括NAND与NOR组件的闪存市场营收将在2010年达到269亿美元，较2009年成长29.3%；尽管景气萧条，闪存市场在09年仍成长了2%，营收规模为208亿美元。

The NAND flash market is hot-and cold-amid a lull in the overall electronics industry.

The overall NAND market is expected to hit $21.5 billion in 2010, up from$ 16.1 billion last year, according to Web-Feet Research, a market research firm.

That's not the whole story. Traditional NAND flash based parts on single-level-cell (SLC) and multi-level-cell (MLC) technologies are hot, and, in some cases, are sold out right now, said Alan Niebel, chief executive of Web-Feet. In contrast, NAND flash based on three-bit-per-cell (TBC) technology is lukewarm to cold, Niebel said.

SLC and MLC NAND flash "are in high demand" and "sold out," Niebel said at the 2010 Non Volatile Memory Conference here. Depending on the product, SLC and MLC parts are sold out until the first or second quarter of 2011, he said.

Driving the SLC and MLC NAND markets are the usual suspects: cell phones, tablet PCs, SSDs and other products.

There is another story for TBC, which is fast turning into a commodity line for USB drives and flash cards. Some vendors have flooded the market with lower quality parts, turning the market upside down.

Generally, the market has been "flooded" with these parts, Niebel said. Prices for TBC have fallen by 20-to-30 percent in recent times.

Going forward, Niebel is "cautiously optimistic" about the flash market. In total, flash memory revenues, including NAND and NOR, are expected to hit $26.9 billion in 2010, a 29.3 percent jump over 2009, according to Web-Feet Research. In 2009, the flash memory market actually grew 2 percent to$ 20.8 billion despite the downturn.
